Meet Ryan Fisher
Olympic triathlete and new Brand Ambassador for Atkins LIFT
Following the recent launch of LIFT – our delicious new range of high-protein, low-carb sports bars – we’re excited to welcome Olympic triathlete Ryan Fisher to the family as our Atkins LIFT Brand Ambassador.
A born-and-bred Queenslander and lifelong outdoors fan - from his days as a sporty, surfie kid to his current gruelling training schedule – Ryan is well aware of the benefits of post-workout protein, but wary of the high-sugar carbohydrate content of many of the current bars on the market.
From his early days as a soccer player, surfer and cross-country competitor, Ryan made an immediate impact as a late-comer to the sport of triathlon, gaining automatic selection into the Rio Olympic team based upon his stellar performances, including winning the World Cup.
Besides fulfilling his innate competitive spirit and providing plenty of opportunity to travel, the outdoor nature of triathlon made the sport particularly appealing to Ryan, tying in with his passion for a healthy, outdoor lifestyle.
While his World Cup win and participation at the Rio games are certainly career highlights to date, Ryan is now firmly focused on training for next year’s Commonwealth games – an event he can’t wait to compete in in front of his hometown crowd.
That training involves two to three sessions a day – plus a slow Sunday coastal run on his day off – and to fuel this active lifestyle, Ryan eats healthily most of the time, although he does admit to having somewhat of a sweet tooth, like most of us!
“I find it hard to eat much after training or a competition, but my body needs to refuel, so a protein bar on the go is the ideal solution to aid my recovery and keep me satisfied – the Atkins LIFT Choc Chip Cookie Dough flavour is my current favourite – filling, delicious and packing all the flavour of a sweet treat, without the high sugar content.”
As for advice for up-and-coming athletes, Ryan says “forget about the pressure to perform and remember why you got into the sport in the first place – hold onto that passion and you’ll find a way through all the hurdles along the way”.
